Danbury Township is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. Located in northern Ottawa County along the shores of Lake Erie, Danbury has a population of 4,700 residents with a very heavy influx of tourists in the summer months. The area is known for its high quality of life and summertime attractions. The service area is 26 square miles and consists of a mix of residential development, local businesses, lake shore and tourism. In 2013 the Lakeside and Marblehead Fire Departments merged to become the Danbury Township Fire Department. The department has 2 full-time, 21 part-time and 40 paid on-call personnel operating from a new 26,000 square-foot fire station that was built in 2022. The department is a well-respected, full-service, all hazards response agency including state-of-the-art EMS and responds to approximately 1,000 calls for service annually.

The Fire Chief reports directly to the Board of Township of Trustees. This highly visible position requires an energetic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a dedicated team environment. Successful applicants will have experience in planning, possess astute financial skills and have a broad background in all aspects of fire and emergency medical services delivery including fire prevention and inspection.

Requirements include a minimum of 10 years of progressive responsible supervisory experience with time as a lieutenant or higher and the following State of Ohio certifications: firefighter II, paramedic, fire or emergency medical services (EMS) instructor and a valid Ohio operator’s license. Applicants should also possess fire safety inspector certification. Completion of Fire Officer I and II training is required.  Completion of the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) or Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) is desired. The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and pass all pre-employment testing requirements including physical examination and drug screening.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 based upon qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included. Township residency is preferable but is not a requirement of the position.

Interviews will be conducted from October through December 2023. The successful candidate will begin full-time employment in January/February 2024 to allow sufficient training time with the current Fire Chief prior to his retirement.

Appointed Positions Available

The Zoning Commission meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30p.m. and is responsible for amendments to the zoning resolution and map. The Commission  is comprised of 5 regular members and 2 alternates. An appointment is for 5 years, unless fulfilling a vacated seat. 

The Board of Zoning Appeals meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30p.m. and is responsible for hearing requests on Appeals, Area Variances, Conditional Uses and Special Exceptions. The Board is comprised of 5 regular members and 2 alternates. An appointment is for 5 years, unless fulfilling a vacated seat.
